DJ Lubi Presents...

JAZZLAND SESSIONS: TEMPO FELIZ (Album Launch)

+ Gustavo Andrade Quartet // A Brazilian Jazz Explosion!

Tempo Feliz are the Leeds-based Brazil-inspired ensemble performing an exciting fusion of original grooves and compositions and electrifying arrangements of Brazilian classics. Taking their lead from the multifaceted musical landscape of Brazil, they fuse funk, soul, jazz and disco vibes with Brazilian percussion and styles, creating their own original music with flavours of samba, bossa-nova and MPB. The 8-piece ensemble are a Music:Leeds launchpad-supported artist group and feature some heavyweight players from our rich and diverse Leeds DIY jazz/global beats scene.

They had been, until 2020, performing live on stages throughout the UK for over 5 years. Also in that time, they wrote original compositions and arranged some Brazilian music classics in their own style and honed them to perfection, ready for the recording studio. In 2019/2020, they hit Eiger Studios and put down their debut album which should have been released by summer 2020. Like so many things in the music scene, it had to be postponed to summer 2021 due to the COVID pandemic. However, this means they can now add some killer remixes done this year to the release, which include reworks by Charles Vaughn (Worldwide FM), Sibson (Elevator East) and the Brazilian music remix/edits king Aroop Roy

It's such a great pleasure to have them finally launching their debut album "Respirar" on the 20th of May at the Brudenell Social Club for the very first Jazzland Sessions show of the May/June series. It is also great to welcome them back to live gigs after a year of no live performances. You know this one will be fire and a sell out for sure so don;t sleep on booking a table.

Tempo Feliz are :
Rich Vickers - Guitar, Caroline Webb - Flute, Henry Weekes - Tenor Sax , Hannah Mae - Baritone Sax,, Ellie Redgrave - Piano/Percussion, Joe Redgrave - Percussion, Ross Skyrme - Bass, Rich Trickylee - Drums

Support comes from a quartet of great emerging young players from Leeds Conservatoire led by a tenor saxophonist from Sao Paulo Brazil. We're talking about Gustavo Andrade and his Brazilian jazz quartet. Gustavo has been at the music college for 2 years now and is well established as a contemporary jazz player in the scene. It's the first time he's got the opportunity to play the music of homeland while in Leeds. He's put together a fantastic quartet of some of the music college's best players and they'll be playing some classics and rarities from the Brazilian music songbook - bossa, MPB, Brazilian jazz. To give you an idea of the flavour, Gustavo's favourite Brazilian musicians are bossa/MPB legends like Jorge Ben, Tom Jobim, Tima Maia and Djavan. And from the jazz side, he loves Vinicius Chagas, Hermeto Pascoal and Amaro Freitas.

Gustavo Andrade Quartet are : Gustavo Andrade - Tenor Sax, Ruben Maric - Piano, Amanda Nossen - Electric Bass, Matias Gorlero - Drums

Before and between sets, DJ Lubi will be playing some vinyl Brazilian music classics alongside more contemporary releases.
