Belly - Venue Change

@ Project House, Leeds

Due to phenomenal demand this show has been upgraded and will now take place at PROJECT HOUSE

Belly celebrates the 30th anniversary of their sophomore album King with a UK/US tour

Formed in 1991 by Tanya Donelly (formerly of Throwing Muses and the Breeders) with brothers Thomas and Christopher Gorman (formerly of Verbal  Assault), Belly became known for a blend of spirited guitar rock, countrified pop and Donelly’s haunting lyrics and voice. The band’s 1993 debut album, Star,  partially produced by Gil Norton, was met with both critical acclaim and  commercial success. It’s follow-up King, released in 1995, was the result of a  more fully realized band with the addition of bassist Gail Greenwood (L7, Bif  Naked, Gang of Four) who joined the band in early 1993.

King introduced Belly’s more collaborative songwriting model, with several tracks  co-written by Donelly, Greenwood, and Tom Gorman. King was recorded live at  Nassau Studios in the Bahamas with producer Glyn Johns, and was engineered  by Jack Joseph Puig. While Star had showcased Donelly's songwriting prowess  and knack for creating lush, melodic atmospheres, King explored deeper, more  experimental territory. The album was an exciting fusion of alt-rock, dream-pop,  and shimmering folk influences. With tracks like "Seal My Fate, "Superconnected," and “Red”, King captured the band's unique ability to craft  songs that were both introspective and aggressive.

Despite its success, King marked the end of Belly's initial run, as the band disbanded in the late '90s. After reuniting in 2015, Belly embarked on a lengthy tour in 2016, which led to the recording of their long-awaited and acclaimed third album Dove in 2017, recorded with old friend Paul Q. Kolderie. A tour supporting Dove followed in 2018.

The 30th anniversary of King marks a momentous occasion in the band's history, and this tour will be an “Evening With Belly” model of two sets each night ~ the first set being a track by track performance of King, and t second set will include B-sides and a smattering of songs from Star and Dove, as well as new material that the band are currently recording.

Whether you were there at the start or discovered Belly more recently, their influence has been steady, with a devoted fanbase and an undeniable impact on the alternative music scene.
