Simeon Walker

Leeds-based pianist & composer Simeon Walker has quickly emerged as a leading light in the burgeoning Modern Classical scene, following the release of Mono and Winnow, his two albums to date. In recent years, Simeon has regularly performed & toured across the UK and Europe; supporting a variety of artists including S. Carey, LYR, Sebastian Plano and Loscil; performinga notable live sets at Latitude & Timber Festivals; and featuring on the first official Piano Day compilation by LEITER, alongside Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds and Chilly Gonzales.

Walker’s Help Musicians and PRS Foundation-funded second album Winnow - on which the composer was accompanied by a string quartet, drums and ondes Martenot - was released at the height of the pandemic in November 2020, and as a result has yet to be performed live. On the second anniversary of its release, the musicians who recorded it together before Covid was even part of our consciousness will gather again at Leeds’ iconic Brudenell Social Club to perform the album in full, for the first time.

At times melancholic and introspective, with moments of tension and release, quiet euphoria and a final sigh of relief, Winnow is a captivating and weaving musical documentation of Walker’s gradual realignment of his worldview around issues of faith and belief. It invites the listener to find stillness, beauty and meaning as much in the spaces between the notes as the notes themselves, as instrumental stories and melodies are woven around tender, intimate arrangements.
