Independent Venue Week Presents...

Spoken:Heard

Spoken:Heard is an LGBTQ+ focused spoken word event presented by Independent Venue Week and Come Play With Me, bringing together three LGBTQ+ identifying spoken word artists/poets from around the UK  to collaborate with an LGBTQ+ soundscape creator to create a unique composition for a one-off performance.
For the first event spoken word artists and activists Desree, Liv Wynter and 1990s Chris will be performing their works in collaboration with Leeds based DJ/producer Shauna.
As a woman of colour, a lot of Desree’s work provides hard hitting and thought provoking discussions around race and gender, while non-binary activist Liv Wynter’s pieces often make audiences laugh with their sarcasm and amusing takes relating to their experience as an anti-fascist protester. The work of up and coming performer 1990’s Chris discusses the pressures around conforming to traditional roles of masculinity as a bisexual working class man.
Shauna, whose recent EP ‘Original Workout’ pays homage to the queer dancefloors she misses so much, will be performing alongside Desree, Liv and 1990’s Chris at the event, creating original soundscapes to soundtrack their words.
