Soul Rebels presents...

Necktr x Project Hilts - cancelled

Goodbye Leeds Party

Unfortunately this show has been cancelled, refunds are available from point of purchase.

Leeds jazz/soul/global beats don DJ Lubi Jovanovic hosts his final spring 2020 show at Brudenell Social Club Community Room. It's a killer double bill of two of Leeds top bands from the city's DIY jazz/beats scene who are leaving for London in June, a final "Goodbye Leeds" party for all their friends and fans.

Necktr and Project Hilts both emerged from Leeds College Of Music and quickly picked up strong local followings before gaining exposure further afield. Both blend a host of influences into their individual sounds - Necktr hitting the afrobeat and Latin vibes alongside jazz and soul, Project Hilts bringing grime and hip-hop together with neo-soul and jazz. Both bands are totally locked into the vibe of the UK jazz resurgence of the last 5 years.

Necktr formed in 2015 at Leeds College Of Music, likeminded students who found they loved the same music - jazz, soul, hip-hop, afrobeat, funk, broken beats and Brazilian music. They built up a following on the vibrant local scene playing small venue shows, support slots and finally headlining shows at venues such as Brudenell Social Club and The Wardrobe. In 2018 they released their debut EP "Something's happening" on London's Wormfood Records and did their first UK tour. Linking up with Earth Agency, in 2019 they hit the summer festivals circuit hard, played more venues UK wide and supported Gilles Peterson. At the end of that year, they had a line-up change and in January 2020 they introduced their new singer Pura Bliss. Now working on their debut album for release later in 2020, they decided to make the move to London to take the band to the next level where they can consolidate their UK reputation and start to build an international profile with gigs in Europe and beyond.

Project Hilts also came out of Leeds College Of Music but in 2018. Brainchild of London grime MC Hilts, he put the band together when he moved up north from the capital to Leeds to study production at the music college. Swapping laptop beats for a full 9 piece live band, he assembled some of the finest musicians at the college as band members. Bringing together their combined love of jazz, hip-hop, neo-soul, Latin music and of course grime, they soon rose through the ranks of college band to support band to headlining small venues like Hyde Park Book Club to headlining the 400 capacity Wardrobe. With gigs in 2019 in Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and London plus a debut single "Lonely Days", their rep grows bigger month by month. Most of the band are from London and have decided to move back home after their final year exams in May 2020 to further build up Project Hilts's profile.

Since both bands wanted to host "Goodbye Leeds' parties and they are great friends, it seemed logical to do one big party together. They both suggested the Brudenell and reached out to promoter DJ Lubi to organise it as he's been involved with them since day one via his "Soul Rebels" and RE:SOUL gigs. This is not just another headliner/support band show but an equal billed event where band members of each band will guest with the other band and hopefully the finale will be one big super band number featuring both acts. A great way to say goodbye to the city they love and the friends they've made here. The end of an era for sure but the start of a new one too.

If you are fans of either band, make sure you're here for this show. Definitely a one-off event you won't ever see again.
