Brudenell presents...
Big Softy
+ Yard Act + Novymir
Big Softy is a new collaboration between Aidan Razzall, ex frontman of now defunct cult Leeds band Weirds, and producer and musician Tom Orrell (The Nave Studios, Junodream, KOYO, Polevaulter).
The pair originally met when Tom was the assistant engineer on Weirds debut record. Orrell then engineered the band's live shows, throughout the UK and Europe, and recorded their final single, 'Supersymmetry' in 2018. They came together as a duo in 2019 over a shared love of artists such as Nine Inch Nails, John Grant, LCD Soundsystem and Japan, and sought to create music which straddles the line between searing post-punk, and the beating, glossy sheen of the dance floor.
On debut single 'S.I.T.T.M', Big Softy reveal their hand with bombastic force. Explosive drums rupture through the caustic synthesizer refrain, whilst Razzall’s sinister croon bemoans the "gentrifiers and the baby-boomers". Tied together by Orrell's powerful production, the song pulsates to its thrilling, euphoric climax.
The track is accompanied by raucous visuals, featuring a melee of golden rats, astronauts and falling dollar bills, thumping to the beat against a striking blue and orange backdrop.
Big Softy, accompanied by a full live band, will play their debut show at Leeds' iconic Brudenell Social Club on January 16th 2020.
