Gold Sounds Festival

Fat White Family + The Blinders + more!

Now in it’s fifth year, Gold Sounds Festivalreturns to the legendary Brudenell Social Club in Leeds this May. Firmly established as one of the most exciting and unique events for new alternative music in the country, this years edition will once again welcome 25+ artists across two stages, over two days.

After a 2018 festival that heralded stunning performances from breatkthrough artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, NYC’s Bodega, and Snail Mail who all went on to regular playlisting across 6music and other channels this year’s edition announces with a bang featuring the most exciting, up and coming names in post-punk, indie, garage and shoegaze from all corners of the world.

An unforgettable live act, Brixton’s prodigal sons, Fat White Family return to Gold Sounds after a raucous 2016 festivalshow. This time returning in support of upcoming third album Serfs Up!on legendary label Domino Records (Arctic Monkeys / Franz Ferdinand). The record was recently recorded in the band’s own Sheffield studio, and has been described as both ‘gratifying’ and ‘unexpected’.

Sharing roots in south Yorkshire, Doncaster punk trio The Blinders made waves across the country last year in support of debut album Columbiaand have shown no signs of slowing down Championed by the likes of UK indie rock giants Blossoms, The Charlatans and Cabbage, their appearance at Gold Sounds will follow on to what will be their biggest UK tour so far.

Formed on Merseyside, dream pop duo Her’shave won their fans over with an infectious and charming sound. Their 80’s influenced tunes nod to the likes of Orange Juice and Gary Wilson. They make their return to the Brudenell following a triumphant sell out show in October.

From further afield, Amsterdam-born Pip Blomand her backing band bring a sweet and scuzzy flavour to the party. Their delightful noise has turned heads on this side of the North Sea, and grabbed the attention of indie tastemaker label Heavenly Recordings (Temples, Doves, King G.izard and the Lizard Wizard) In the same noisy European corner of the bill are Swedish gonzo post punkers Viagra Boys. Their tongue-in-cheek anthem ‘Sports’ was subject to a glowing write-up by hugely influential music website Pitchfork and given heavy rotation from BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac.

From the other side of the world New Zealander’s The Bethsarrive in Leeds in support of highly-acclaimed freshman album Future Me Hates Me. Their high energy 60’s influenced pop-riffs will resonate well for fans of Best Coast and Sleater-Kinney. Other highlights across the bill include Hand Habits, The Nude Party, Vulgarians andWorking Men’s Club.
