Steve Lamacq

Going Deaf for a Living

This intimate, one-man show with music DJ and journalist Steve Lamacq will celebrate his thirty years in the music industry championing up-and-coming sounds, in which he’s worked for NME, XFM, Top of the Pops, Radio1 and BBC 6Music, and a score of others.

Steve will tell anecdotes from the life story of a music obsessive, and from his BBC career as an ambassador for new music – from 17 interviews with Noel Gallagher to the time Richey from the Manic Street Preachers, desperate to illustrate the sincerity of the band, carved “4REAL” into his arm with a razorblade.

Having seen more than 5000 gigs, Steve is a bone fide new music expert, who will be relating observations from across his thirty years in the industry. From having interviewed Nirvana back at NME, he’ll talk about life at Radio 1 and 6Music with his countless interviews with soon-to-be massive names in music. He’ll be talking being awarded the Sony Lifetime Achievement Award back in 2013, through to life now, at BBC 6Music, where his show hit a million listeners for the first time back in 2015, after many had prophesied the irrelevance of digital radio.

But he is also a star-struck fan – and the show will explore this side of him; we’ll delve into the best gigs he’s ever seen right through to his first record, with some amazing stories en route.
