CMH presents...

Acid Reign

plus guests

This heavy metal band was formed in Harrogate, Yorkshire, England, in 1987, and the original line-up comprised H (vocals), Kev (guitar), Gaz Jennings (guitar), Ian Gangwer (bass) and Mark Ramsey Wharton (drums). A demo tape persuaded the Music For Nations subsidiary label, Under One Flag, to sign them. Their debut, 1988’s Moshkinstein, was a blend of Anthrax -style riffing with the band’s own basic metal sound. They became popular on the UK club circuit with their quirky stage antics and down-to-earth attitude.

The Fear, released in 1989, was thrash metal performed with humour. However, shortly after its release Jennings and Gangwer were replaced by Mac (ex-Holoslade bass player) and Adam Lehan (ex-Lord Crucifer guitarist). They continued to tour extensively, including support slots with Nuclear Assault and Exodus in Europe. They then re-recorded ‘Humanoi’, a track from the previous album, as well as releasing a cover version of Blondie’s hit ‘Hanging On The Telephone’ (originally recorded by the Nerves).

Their second album, Obnoxious, was a major musical departure, confirming their songwriting maturity. It was not, however, well received by fans of their previous releases, and, feeling disillusioned following the departure of Lehan and then Kev (the latter to Lawnmower Deth), the band split in October 1991. Under One Flag released a compilation, The Worst Of Acid Reign, made up of previously unreleased material, and live and demo tracks. Meanwhile, Lehan and Wharton joined Jennings in Cathedral.
