Litany

+ Laux + La Rissa

Litany (aka Beth Cornell and Jake Nicolaides) are fresh from releasing their debut EP 4 Trackwhich has surpassed 1.1 million streams since release. The EP features brand new music such as latest single Bedroom, which has been championed across Radio 1, Beats 1, Radio X, BBC Introducing Yorkshire and Amazing Radio (and gaining 375k streams to date), as well as fan favourite Flaws. 4 Track conveys the British duo’s signature brand of alternative pop and layered melodies, while the lyrics tell personal stories and experiences of the band. To present a more intimate snapshot, the tracks are interspersed with spoken work interludes that reveal more context to the songs.

“We wanted our first EP to represent us in the most open, honest and authentic way possible so it was important for each song to encapsulate a key moment in one another's lives. We're most interested in real-life, everyday stories that relate to everyone so the aim was to combine that with music” - Litany

The EP kicks off with the pure and fragile sound of previous single ‘Flaws’, a track that received 500k+ streams within the first month. Tracks such as ‘I Said’and latest single ‘Bedroom’reveal a more upbeat side to the band’s repertoire. These refreshing pop leanings show us a side of Litany fans may not heard before, and feel hugely fitting for the soundtrack to a Summer afternoon and daydreaming. Litany hint at 80’s Italo-disco on ‘PS2’, complete with a dreamlike melody and sparse lyrics.

Harrogate-based Litany have been bringing their own brand of intelligent alt-pop to the foray for the past few years. Born in the 90s and brought up on a musical diet ranging from The Strokes and George Michael to Kate Bush and Jamiroquai, the two piece alt-pop duo paid their dues in cover bands at school only until they realised that they had a passion for something different.

Early track ‘Woman’ - a collaboration with friend and rising Chicago-based rapper Appleby - grew into an underground indie hit and reached #1 on HypeMachine. Their last single ‘WorkThisOut’ then earned them a growing fanbase, over one million Global Spotify streams and a Top 10 on the Viral Charts in the UK, Canada and Germany. The single also received a host of UK media support from the likes of Radio 1, BBC Introducing, 6 Music and Radio X alongside syncs in Made In Chelsea and MTV’s TV series of cult-hit ‘Scream’. Previous single ‘flaws’gained attention from Metro’s ‘Artist of the Day’ and it was also gained Litany a ‘Band of the Week’ slot on BBC Introducing.
