GOLD CLASS

plus guests

“Definitely not to be missed” – NME

“This is dark music, but with a spark of life, somehow shrugging and sprinting at the same time” – Stereogum

At once raw and sophisticated, inventive and precise, Gold Class continue to emerge from the Australian underground onto stages around the world. With little fanfare but plenty of praise, the Melbourne band’s 2015 debut album, It’s You, collected glowing reviews in international press and was subsequently short-listed for the prestigious Australian Music Prize, Australia’s answer to the UK’s Mercury Music Prize.

Following a summer of sold-out shows in their home country, the band’s inaugural UK and USA tours at the beginning of 2016 saw them fronting up to South By Southwest as virtual unknowns. Word spread. Their very first London show, just weeks later, left a line out the door trying to get into Camden’s Lock Tavern.

Those in Australia are no strangers to the band’s engaging live shows. The band’s live set has been their calling card since Gold Class first took to the stage one Sunday afternoon mid-2014, a few months after forming. Led by the soaring and breaking vibrato of singer Adam Curley, the band – Evan James Purdey on guitar, Mark Hewitt on drums, and Jon Shub on bass – create minimal compositions that add up to much more than the sum of their four parts.

When it came to their debut record, Gold Class did what they knew best, laying down the album in a focused burst over four days. It was an unpretentious recording of the band’s first songs, Purdey’s guitar scraping and delicately weaving around relentless rhythms, while Curley delved lyrically into the immediately personal and political, and the light-filled spaces between.

Having already played some of Australia’s favourite music festivals, including Golden Plains and Splendour In The Grass, the band will again tour the UK and Europe in May 2017 as they gear up to release their second album in September 2017.
