Albert Hammond Jr.

plus guest support...

Hammond sounds fully rechargedhowling his best vocals ever over stuttering, futuristic riffs of St. Justice, the manic grooves of Rude Customer and the anthemic Cooker ShipRolling Stone

Rife with incessant high-range guitar work, mechanistic rhythms and shrugging, swaggering vocals. Stereogum

Noisey premiered the video for St. Justice, the first single from Albert Hammond Jr.s new EP AHJ. Noisey calls the video unexpectedly intimate, sexy, and humorous to boot and the song classic Albert: nimble, instantly memorablemakes our heart hurt a little.

St. Justice was filmed at Hammonds New York City apartment and costars Hammond and model Nina de Raadt. The videos French born, New York based director, Laurent Briet (Beyonc, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Strokes), says We wanted to work very differently on this video and do it without a crew. It was challenging, but incredibly freeing.AHJ premiered streaming in its entirety on Rolling Stone, while EP track Rude Customer premiered on BBC Radio 1 as Zane Lowes Hottest Record in The World. To celebrate the release, Hammond recently performed St. Justice on the Late Show with David Letterman and will tour the U.S. this November prior to coming to Europe.

AHJ follows Hammonds previous solo efforts, 2006s Yours to Keep, which NME called an intimate, frequently beautiful and consistently surprising record that gets better with every listen, and 2008s Cmo Te Llama?. Of the new EPs relationship with his earlier releases, Hammond says, Its a combination of both previous recordings, which in turn makes it feel like its the best material that Ive made so far.AHJ was produced, engineered and mixed by Grammy-winning producer Gus Oberg and recorded at Hammonds two studios, Broome Street in Manhattan and One Way Studios in upstate New York. Of working with Oberg, Hammond says Ive been working with him since my first solo project, after we met and became best friends. We get along and we understand each other musically, so everything just flows. Hammond played all of the instruments on the EP himself, excluding drums on several tracks, which were played by longtime collaborator Matthew Frank Romano.

Since the release of Cmo Te Llama?, Hammond has released two critically acclaimed albums with The Strokes, 2011s Angles and this years Comedown Machine. Of his inspirations for AHJ, Hammond said Once you play music for a living, youre always thinking about stuff. Conversations with friends and things you hear in moviesthings come up and become lyrics. Hearing other peoples songs becomes like competitionyou hear something and mentally you want to beat it. Life in general is pretty inspiring.Cult Records is helmed by Julian Casablancas. In addition to Albert Hammond, Jr., forthcoming releases include C O L O R, Exclamation Pony, Rey Pila, Reputante and more.
