Strawbs are an English rock band founded in 1964. Led throughout by talented musician Dave Cousins, they are best-known for their folk-rock and progressive rock albums of the 1970s and for including Sandy Denny as an early member of the band (before she joined Fairport Convention) and Rick Wakeman for two albums (before he moved on to Yes).
Strawbs were originally known as the Strawberry Hill Boys.
The front line of the band is as it was in 1974 and comprises leader David Cousins guitar & vocals, Dave Lambert lead guitar & vocals, and bass player Chas Cronk. They are joined on this tour by Tony Fernandez on drums and John Young on keyboards.
Tony Fernandez is a familiar face to many longtime Strawbs fans having played on Deadlines' and Heartbreak Hill', the latter is an album which Cousins considers one of their best. After thirty four years in former Strawbs keyboardist Rick Wakeman's English Rock Ensemble, Tony was reunited with the Heartbreak Hill and Blue Angel line-ups at the Strawbs 40th anniversary weekend in September 2009. His enthusiasm in playing Strawbs material again was both obvious and infectious. It is a great pleasure to see him on the Strawbs drum riser again.
John Young studied piano and was Head Chorister at Liverpool Cathedral Choir School. He currently works primarily as a composer. He writes songs with Jon Anderson of Yes and his music is used extensively by the BBC, CNN, and the History and National Geographic Channels. John has played keyboards with Asia, the Scorpions, Qango, and Fish. He is also Musical Director of Bonnie Tyler's band.
