RUNNERS
Runners are four spikes-wearing, dayglo shellsuit-sporting, house music-loving jogging types from Leeds. In between take-offs and landings at their home at Tranquility Base, Electron House, Armley, Leeds, they can be seen running on the spot next to electrical substations and giant waveform generators, holding their precious tape cassette Walkmans aloft.
In reality these four current and ex-members of bands such as Cowtown, Nope, Chops, Tigers! and Girl's Water combine pure-tone analog synth, live acoustic drums and a voice to form a blend of cosmic house music, early 80s library soundtracks, and Krautrock. 'Tranquility Base Part II' is arguably their standout track to date. Jon Nash's four-to-the-floor bass drum and accented hi-hat sixteenth-note groove underpins perfectly the three primary interwoven synth sections. The result is a spacious, drugged-out proto-house tune which nestles sweetly in the subconcious, producing the kind of blissed-out sensation you should get from good dance music.
Runners debut 12" on Dummy is available now.
