Jim Lockey And The Solemn Sun
plus guest support
Jim Lockey & the Solemn Sun have fought tooth and nail to secure a place as one of the hardest working bands in the UK. Travelling the length and breadth of the country delivering their passionate blend of folk/rock theyve garnered critical acclaim and admiration with each new city visited. After signing with Xtra Mile Recordings (home to Frank Turner, Future of the Left and Against Me!) and releasing their second album Death in April, the band has filled the past 18 months playing rapturously received sets at festivals across the globe, smashed through two UK headline tours, were branded as Next Hype on Zane Lowes Radio 1 show and backed Frank Turner at the Olympics Opening Ceremony to an estimated audience of 25million people.
Beginning life in 2009 following Lockeys year long solo career the rise of The Solemn Sun saw the band release debut album Atlases in 2010 on Lockeys own istartedthefire records and take to the road for next 4 years non-stop. Produced by double Grammy nominated James Towler, the bands debut drew attention from 6Music and Radio 1 alike and paved the way for continuous touring commitments. Last years follow up entitled Death has cemented them as the rock powerhouse they are today, forgoing the folk sensibilities of their first album the bands material now resides comfortably within their heavier influences whilst retaining the honesty and charm of their earlier folk songs. Featuring the singles Wishing Well, A Song About Death and the towering Englands Dead, it wonderfully encapsulates the bands vast sound. A truly arresting record crammed with hook-filled harmonies, innovative rhythms and passionately honest lyrics, surely making JL&TSS one of the most exciting new bands in British music.
Their non-stop touring ethic shows no sign of slowing down as the band joined Frank Turner last November on his huge UK band and solo tours. Beginning 2013 in earnest the band have completed a 30 date UK headline run, supported Dropkick Murphys on their recent US tour and made a welcome return to SXSW. With no signs of slowing the Cheltenham based quartet have begun work on album number 3, ahead of a single release and UK tour in September following a busy summer festival season and plans to return to the states in the winter.
