Brudenell presents

Warhaus

plus guests

Warhaus is Maarten Devoldere (Balthazar). Exuding Gainsbourg, Cohen, decadence & smoke, Warhaus submerges into contradictory & fleeting reflections on fateful encounters. Debut album “We Fucked a Flame into Being” to be released September 2nd.

Warhaus has released a new video for their track “Memory” from the album We F*cked A Flame Into Being (out now on Play It Again Sam). Directed by prestigious Belgium filmmaker, Wouter Bouvijn, the video for “Memory” was shot during Warhaus’ album sessions on a floating recording studio boat named Dr. John.

Warhaus lead singer Maarten Devoldere explains, “It’s a goodbye song for a woman returning home. She left with the words ‘this never happened’. I probably didn't do her a favour by pouring it into a song.”

Director Bouvijn also put together the mini-documentary I’m Not Him, an intimate behind-the-scenes look at the making of We Fucked A Flame Into Being, which was shot over the summer of 2015 aboard Dr. John.

The title of Warhaus’ album comes from a quote taken from DH Lawrence’s novel Lady Chatterley's Lover that Devoldere felt was "too good to pass on”. As a title We F*cked A Flame Into Being perfectly encapsulates the essence of this collection of songs exploring the murky inscrutability of human encounters and reveling in all the decadent intensity that life offers.

Maarten (who also shares front man duties in acclaimed rock band Balthazar) has until recently kept his Warhaus solo project persona under wraps; but with We F*cked A Flame Into Being he brings to the fore a dark lyrical universe, fueled by desire and passion. The album is “an ode to love, to its excesses and elusiveness,“ declaresDevoldere; and playing Birkin-esque muse and foil to Devoldere’s post-modern Gainsbourg throughout, chanteuse Sylvie Kreusch (pictured with Maarten on the album cover) contributes seductive haunting backing vocals.
