Labourfest#2
The Ukrainians
+ Nervous Twitch + Noah Brown + More tba
In its second year, Labourfest is a FUNdraiser for Headingley and Weetwood Labour Party. The money raised will contribute to local campaigning over the year. The event itself is an opportunity for all Socialists and Social Democrats to come together and party. However, we welcome all folk regardless of political allegiance. We can all find common ground!
This year we are absolutely thrilled to be working with legendary Leeds band, The Ukrainians. Joining them will be Nervous Twitch and Leeds stalwart, Noah Brown. There will be other guests and speakers who will hope to top Richard Burgon’s barnstorming address last year.

ANARCHY IN THE UKRAINE!
The Ukrainians have been performing their unique style of music for a quarter of a century. Since their first performances on the John Peel Show the group have brought their high energy mix of Ukrainian Folk and Western Rock to audiences throughout the world.
In hundreds of festivals throughout Europe and North America, (including both Glastonbury and Womad in the UK), the band have entertained music fans with their eastern melodies, the poetry of the Ukrainian language and the pure, life-affirming energy of their music.
The group use their Ukrainian and Western roots as inspiration for their songs, writing in Ukrainian language and adding the power of western rock.
The majority of the set is made of the band’s own compositions, but there is always a selection of westernised traditional Ukrainian tracks, and ‘easternised’ classic western rock and pop songs. ‘Ukrainianised’ versions of songs include : The Sex Pistols, The Velvet Underground, Kaiser Chiefs, Prince, Kraftwerk, and The Smiths.
“We love playing in Leeds. It’s a home town for us – we know so many people here and the venue is our favourite in the UK”
Their latest release ‘Evolutsiya’ is a double compilation CD of their best studio & live tracks.
In all of their career, The Ukrainians have produced 8 studio albums, performed over 1000 gigs, even had the first Ukrainian music to be played in space!. They are currently writing a new studio album, ready for release early next year.
NERVOUS TWITCH
Nervous Twitch are a three-piece from Leeds UK described as “A winning, fuzzy blend of garage-punk and pop hooks” mixing bands like The Ramones, Au Pairs, The Cramps, Blondie and Thee Headcoats and pumping out “Catchy songs full of hooky heartbreak, rumbling twang, post-punk-ish attitude and warm bouncy rock n’ roll”. 2016 has seen Twitch perform a live session for Marc Riley and live acoustic tracks for Mary Anne Hobbs’, both on BBC Radio 6 Music. Since 2013, Twitch have played gigs with some familiar names including Sleaford Mods, Fat White Family, The Lovely Eggs, Shopping, Flamin’ Groovies, Kid Congo Powers and the Pink Monkey Birds. Recent releases include two albums on Odd Box Records, “Get Back In Line” (2015) and “Don’t Take My TV” (2016) and two 7” singles on Punk Fox Records. The band opened up Indietracks 2016 festival receiving critical acclaim for their performance.

NOAH BROWN
Everyone who has followed the Leeds music scene over the past twenty years will be aware of Noah. From his days in Baby Food, Yes Boss and Normal Man to his artwork and spoken word performances he’s always challenged dulldom. We have no idea what Noah is going to do. Nobody ever does. Expect something good.
