The Music In You

with Dr Jen Wills Lamacq Tickets

How music helps play, bonding, and development.

Dr Jen Wills Lamacq is a child & educational psychologist with a special interest in parenting through the early years of life.

In this 90 min workshop, designed especially for parents of children aged from 0-5, Jen covers some of the science about the value of music and the developing brain, offers some practical ideas about how to incorporate music into play and bonding activities, as well as offering space for parents to think and reflect about the role of music in their lives.

Please note: this session will be live-streamed via zoom, projected into the venue. You will need to physically attend the venue to participate in the session.

The session will also include a general Q&A, allowing parents a chance to ask about any aspect of early child development such as sleep, emotions or behaviour.

Tea & coffee will be available and the venue has soft flooring if you'd like to bring your toddlers along.

At the end of the session, participants will be asked to complete a quick survey. These surveys really help us to make sure the sessions are interesting and helpful. They also help us to secure funding to run more of these sessions for other people.

Once this is completed, participants will then be able to receive some session materials via email to keep and a link to two Spotify playlists curated by Jen and husband, Steve Lamacq of BBC Radio 6.

This event is part of a development, education and community programme bringing music-focused activity to independent venues during the day, throughout the year, across the country.

This community programme is for various and often marginalized community groups, including Early Years, Younger People, Deaf, Disabled & Neurodivergent, Mental Health & Wellbeing, LGBTQ+ and the Older Generation.

Independent Venue Week and this community program in the UK are kindly supported by Arts Council England.
