DJ Lubi presents...

LADY

+ Rosie Miles + DJ Noiak (Shaku)

Lady are the Leeds based alt-music outfit creating a melting pot of soft, classic and psych rock infused with folk and soul influences, both timeless and seminal sounding at the same time. Formed and led by singer/guitarist Rebecca Herrington, who’s powerful and melodic vocal style has been likened to Janis Joplin and Jeff Buckley. LADY’s story-driven compositions weave tales that explore the light and dark sides of love and loss, with influences such as early HAIM, Jeff Buckley and Khruangbin. Established on the Leeds and Liverpool circuit, LADY have previously supported neo-psych forerunners Yin Yin and featured on line ups with emerging stars such as English Teacher, Porij and Crawlers. In 2021, LADY was chosen as one of Launchpad's Supported Artists and featured on Come Play With Me's Side By Side Compilation.

Now comes LADY’s debut EP ‘Birthplace’, set for release on September 9th 2022. It is the first comprehensive body of work from the alternative rock outfit. After honing their sound live, LADY now reveal an accomplished, electric sound that has all the delicacies of folk and jazz yet the power of soft/psych rock. Mixed by Oli Deakin (who recently produced CMAT’s ‘If My Wife Knew I’d Be Dead’ that entered the Irish Music Charts at No.1), "Birthplace" was recorded live to tape at Greenmount Studios, Leeds. ‘Birthplace’ is a series of dynamic emotive songs that will take you on a journey through love, loss, faith and longing. The first taster from the EP ‘Does He Ever Think Of Me?' dropped over the summer and was chosen as 'Track Of The Week' on BBC Introducing West Yorkshire with presenter Emily Pilbeam stating ‘I already feel like this is going to be in my top 10 from the uploader this year’. The second taster single from the EP ‘What This Woman Wants’ will be available worldwide on 9th August 2022. They will be launching the full EP at this hometown show at Brudenell Social Club, before setting off on a UK promo tour.

Support for this show is from Leeds folk-soul-jazz singer/guitarist Rosie Miles. She's the perfect opener for LADY as her songs/compositions also sit between the worlds of folk, soft rock, soul and jazz. Drawing influence from Joni Mitchell, Lianne La Havas and Nina Simone, she tells us stories through intricate melodies and poetic lyrics. Since moving North four years ago, she has worked with many familiar faces in the Leeds music scene, touring with B-ahwe and co-founding Flood Company and Ah-Um Collective.
As well as lead vocals, Rosie plays electric guitar and keys/piano. Her band brings together musicians that she’s collaborated with extensively throughout her time at Leeds Conservatoire and features some of the new generation of musicians who came into the Leeds jazz/soul/electronic music scenes in the last few years. After two great shows in 2021 at Brudenell (Jazzland Sessions in July and supporting London folk-jazz queen Rosie Frater Taylor last November), it's great to have her back at the venue once again. Get down early to catch one of Leeds' most exciting and original artists from any genre.

Keeping things nice and flowing before and between sets is Leeds music legend and top bloke Noaiak Bedirian. Best known as singer/front man/guitarist with feisty Leeds prog azz/art rock combo Shaku, Noiak is also a well respected DJ and vinyl junkie and tonight he'll be laying down a soundtrack of soft rock/yacht rock vibes, rocky soul, folky funk, proggy jazz and other delights from his extensive record collection.
