Gold Sounds Festival returns for a 6th outing, taking place once again in the beating heart of Hyde Park in Leeds, at the legendary Brudenell Social Club. Over two days, and across two stages, Gold Sounds plays host to a bustling mix of over 20 of the most exciting acts from the world of post-punk, noise, garage rock and outsider indie.
2019’s event saw wild performances from Fat White Family, Pip Blom, Working Men’s Club and Viagra Boys, amongst a host of others. Now returning in May, the event is very much set to pick up where those artists left off, with 16 acts announced today (Monday 10th February).
DREAM WIFE bring their high energy show to the Brudenell following a standout performance at last year's Live at Leeds festival. The 3-piece London based punk trio owe as much to the Spice Girls as they do to Kathleen Hanna and will be touring in support of a highly anticipated second album, due in 2020.
Dublin based noise-rockers GIRL BAND sit firmly at the forefront of an incredible explosion of Irish indie artists and bands that they were pivotal in laying the blueprint for. Girl Band released their second album ‘The Talkies’ last year, which saw wide critical acclaim and a nomination for Ireland’s Choice Music Prize. Girl Band will close Gold Sounds festival out on Sunday 17th May.
Spontaneously formed for a debaucherous New Year’s party, WARMDUSCHER are the ‘offspring of a match made in hell between Fat White Family and Paranoid London’. Signed to The Leaf Label, the post-punk outfit also share members with Childhood and Insecure Men and return to Brudenell following a sold-out performance on launch night for their recent album, the aptly named ‘Tainted Lunch’.
Joining them on the Saturday, hotly tipped Welsh act BUZZARD BUZZARD BUZZARD will bring a distinct retro psych-pop flavour to the event, whilst on the Sunday MATT MALTESE will be crooning postmodern love songs in person many taken from his brilliant sophomore album Krystal. In sharp contrast, the same day will also see the more abrasive, 100mph ‘Shagtallytastic’ punk rock of LADY BIRD, an act that Slaves wasted little time in signing to their Girl Fight Records label.
Speaking of labels, Dan Carey’s Speedy Wundeground have become nothing short of a post-punk hit factory over the last couple of years, and once again they are well represented at Gold Sounds Festival, this time with PVA, TIÑA and Leeds based five piece TREEBOY & ARC all featuring across the weekend.
Additional hotly tipped Yorkshire representation comes from Leeds hazy-bedroom-pop kings, FAR CASPIAN, krautrock-gone-disco specialists HOLODRUM and the Pavement inspired slacker rock charm of York’s BULL.
From the other side of the Pennines, fellow Northerners MEALTIME, PEANESS and STRAWBERRY GUY are all involved. While the from (way) further north, the Faroe Island punk rock scene doesn’t miss out on representation either, with JOE & THE SHITBOYS, a band who’s name very much says it all.
Gold Sounds Festival day tickets are priced at £20.00, and weekend tickets are priced at £32.50. Early bird tickets have sold out.
