Pure, ecstatic pop from the Brighton-based star

of Channel 4’s The Undateables

Daniel Wakeford has been writing and recording music since 2009, working alongside musician Tom Cook. In 2016, 10 songs were taken to Lift Music Studios in Brighton, re-recorded, given the time and attention they deserve and compiled to create his first album proper, “Songs of Gigs”, which was released through Carousel. His songs are about his life and the things he loves, from his family and friends, to bad feelings and Beethoven.

Daniel, who describes himself as a singer songwriter with autism, is an important part of the learning disabled music scene in the UK and, through his inspirational performances, portrays a much needed positive image of learning disabled people in the media.

"Daniel Wakeford brings heartfelt euphoria wherever he goes. His seemingly bottomless well of material offers up classic after classic in the shape of relentlessly catchy pop naiveties. It’s the delivery that sets Daniel apart, anyone with a shred of a soul can’t help but be won over by his unbounded joy and enthusiasm." - Supernormal Festival

"A legend and an inspiration" Marc Riley, BBC 6Music

Daniel in recent years has also gained a cult following in mainstream culture due to his show-stealing appearances on Channel 4’s “The Undateables”. His charm shone through in the episodes he appeared in and that same charm inhabits all of his songs.

In Summer 2016 Daniel embarked on a 9-date UK tour organised by Constant Flux and funded by Arts Council England, and featured on a bill with Brian Wilson at Together The People Festival in Brighton.

Daniel and his band, “The Daniel Wakeford Experience” toured extensively around the UK in 2017, selling out shows at 200-300 capacity venues and being invited to play The Great Escape in Brighton and Transmusicales in Rennes. They have been confirmed to support The Go! Team (UK) and Chain & The Gang (USA) in early 2018.

Carousel – Brighton based arts organisation that for over 30 years have specialised in supporting learning disabled artists to achieve their artistic ambitions. Carousel support Daniel’s artistic development, including creating mentoring and performance opportunities. Carousel.org.uk

Constant Flux – Creating opportunities for musicians with learning disabilities. CF help start a movement in learning disability music away from learning disabled events for learning disabled audiences, towards integrated shows for everyone in accessible venues. Constantflux.co.uk.

Tom Cook – Daniel’s long-term song writing partner. Tom recorded ‘Songs Of Gigs’ and has worked with Daniel both at Carousel and independently since 2009.

The Daniel Wakeford Experience – Daniel’s band featuring Lizzy Carey, Sam Dook, Steve Tovell and Katie Windsor.
