Action Beat

Action Beat are a liquid instrumental improvisational noise-rock band from Bletchley, UK, which is usually made up of musicians who are available to play the gig on any particular date or tour.

They normally have at least 4 guitarists, a bassist and between 1 and 4 drummers.

Action Beat are one of the most notorious DIY bands to come out of the UK in the past ten years. Boasting over 20 members in their 10 year life span. Action Beat are a roaring monster of riffs and drums.

They have released countless records on Action Beat founder Don McLean's record label 'Fortissimo Records' and Southern Offshoot 'Truth Cult'.

Action Beat started in 2004, as a 2 piece drum and bass band that aimed to play mickey mouse versions of lightning bolt style songs. Neither of the members could play their instruments, though they did perform spectacular concerts, like the Milton Keynes battle of the bands at the Pitz in 2005, and the Christmas day tour of 2005, where they managed to play under two underpasses, and on a bridge crossing the old A5.

The band morphed into a more familiar 9 member semi-improvisational onslaught, with 3-4 drummers, and 5 guitarists hogging the stage, flailing over each other, and generally getting in each other's way. They were extremely loud, not always in a good way. Some would say obnoxious. Still, the crust punks loved it, and so did their dogs (and goats...).

They toured throughout Europe for 3 months at a time after 2007, and in 2009 they played 117 shows. That's a show every 3.11965811966 days. They never practised.

To sum up Action Beat in 2014: old, bitter, exiled, upset, buskers, resentful, inventors, teachers, married, paying mortgages, and have at least 1 father amongst our ranks. HOWEVER, that has not stopped them! They still tour frequently and have managed to put out 8 records in 10 years. They still king it every show. They still receive calls from promoters saying, "where are you"?

In 2012 Action Beat played, and recorded in New York. Somehow, managing to convince G.W Sok (The EX), to sing over the music. This reflected a change in their way of thinking about the band, and nowadays Action Beat exists as an almost fluid ensemble, with members situated in all parts of the world including New York, France and Scotland.

Silent Front

3 ugly lads from London who make an unpalatable racket who have been doing it for years. Call it noise-rock, if you like. Russ does the David Wm. Simms style dark grooves on the bass, Phil channels the Albini-esque high-end vibes on quitar and does a bunch of shouting, and Gareth drives a van.

They say "We tour, a fair bit. Not as much as some bands...but by most people's standards, a fair bit. Let me put it this way; we've sat around in the living rooms of some of Europe's best DIY promoters. We have also shitted into the toilets of many of Europe's best and worst service stations, even the one's without their own dedicated slip-roads."

Their most recent album "Trust" on Function Records (Shield Your Eyes, Nitkowski, MMISL etc) was released in February 2014.

They think it's the best thing they've done so far.

Silent Front love playing Leeds and we're especially excited that they are going to be dropping by with good buddies Action Beat. Join Us!

Bearfoot Beware

Energetic, scrappy and yet mature indie math-rock sound; Bearfoot Beware are an alternative rock band from Leeds.

"Bearfoot Beware are characterised as much by tough, tight playing as by their deliciously devious songwriting. Wall-of-sound energy, sly intelligence and subversive arrangements keep the musical surprises coming. What's not to like?"

Tom Robinson (BBC Radio 6)
