The Brudenell Social Club

The Entertainments Committee

The main Committee at the Brudenell Social Club kindly allowed a small group of volunteers to take over the upkeep of the main concert room at the Club, after noise complaints in late 2004 threatened the future of the club and its’ live music licence. The main room is used for live music performances, art installations, special events, large music events, private parties, band rehearsals and many small DIY gigs which are vital to the arts and music scene in Leeds.

The Brudenell Entertainments Committee secured the Brudenell Social Club’s ability to host live music, DJs and community events by raising around £6000 for soundproofed firedoors, which were installed in November 2005. Many thanks to all bands who played for free (or paid to play!) at benefits, and everyone who attended the gigs and bought/donated items at the bring and buy sales.

Additionally, in 2006, the Entertainments Committee raised almost £15,000 to pay for a new PA system, after the existing system (owned by sound engineers who work at the club) was sold. £10,000 of this funding was provided by Awards For All, the Lottery fuding organisation. AFA supported their efforts with the maximum £10,000 grant towards the project. Sincere thanks to Cllr James Monaghan who supported the AFA application and has been really supportive generally.

Currently the Committee has four regular members (Jonny, Claire, Neil, Stu) who meet once a week in the Lounge bar - usually on a Wednesday or Thursday at 6pm. Other members, volunteers and interested parties contribute to our email discussion group. Everyone with an interest in the upkeep and survival of the Brudenell is welcome to attend a meeting, or join our Yahoo group, and get involved.

Many thanks to everyone who has helped the Entertainments Committe make a real difference to the venue, and to the staff at the Brudenell for their support.

You can email the Entertainments Committee - but please don’t ask us to take bookings, sell you tickets, confirm gigs or publicise your listings. We are volunteers who don’t work there, and if your email relates to any of the above it will be discarded without reply.

The following form exists for people to communicate with us about fundraising, this website, maintainence in the gig room and other relevant topics.
