The Brudenell Social Club

Progress so far, and our next meeting

Thanks VERY much to Neil from Napoleon IIIrd and Sean from Shut Your Eyes And You’ll Burst Into Flames for wearing Brudenell t-shirts onstage at the Leeds festival. (The BBC site shows Napoleon IIIrd on stage, with Neil on the right of the pic).

T-shirts are available from the club for £6, or from this site for £8 (the extra £2 covers postage, packaging and PayPal fees). All the profits go towards the purchase of a new PA for the Club. To buy one, see the Brudenell fundraising shop.
Thanks also to the Leeds Guide for publicising our t-shirts, and our fundraising, in the current issue.

You’ll see a little fundraising progress bar around the site now - on this page, it’s sitting on the right below the links. As you’ll see, we’ve now broken the £1000 mark and have cash to buy a Mackie desk and a new amp. Once these are installed, the PA will be more robust. We’ll be able to broaden the range of sound engineers that can use it, and start training those who wish to use the PA system in the future.

Finally, we decided to apply to Awards for All for a £10,000 grant towards our target and have almost finished the application, so we will keep you up to date with our progress. Many thanks to Jamie at Oblong for his help, and to James Monaghan, Lib Dem councillor for Headingley, for agreeing to assist us with the application.

The next meeting regarding PA fundraising is on Wednesday 30th August at 6pm in the lounge bar at the Brudenell.

The Leeds Festival

Jonny has been handing out Brudenell t-shirts backstage at the Leeds Festival, with the hope of getting some to appear on stage and on TV. Watch out for Napoleon IIIrd (today) and Sean from Shut Your Eyes And You’ll Burst Into Flames (tomorrow) wearing them.

All profit from sales of Brudenell t-shirts will go towards buying the venue a new £15,000 PA.

Incidentally, Franz Ferdinand are selling t-shirts which list all the gigs they have done to date - including their secret Brudenell gig in March 2004.

Fundraising total from the Jeff Lewis gig

As Jonny has mentioned on the gojonnygogogogo website, last Saturday’s Jeff Lewis gig raised more than £550 for the Brudenell PA fund. We’re now in a position to buy the first piece of the PA, a mixing desk, and we hope to have this installed by mid-September.

The new website

The new Brudenell website is now up, and functioning pretty well, I hope.

The pages are in two sections: the links at the top left hold the main site content, and the links under ‘Updates’ will give you the most recent blog-style posts, like this one. (Nerd note: blog posts are also available via RSS.)
In the coming weeks, we will be re-writing the site content, putting a few pictures up, and letting you know exactly what is happening with our drive to buy a new PA for the venue.
